Pennsylvania Football at DII

The PSAC is the largest DII conference by enrollment and the one with the most NFL draft picks per decade. Indiana (PA) has won four DII national championships. West Chester has appeared in Super Region championship games. Slippery Rock, Shippensburg, California (PA), and Kutztown all produce NFL players from small Pennsylvania state universities. The PSAC is where the Pennsylvania high school football tradition — one of the deepest in the country — lands at the DII level, and the competition is relentlessly physical.

Three Things to Watch

The Champion

Indiana (PA): Four National Championships

Indiana University of Pennsylvania — IUP — has won four DII national championships and is the PSAC's most decorated program. Their Indiana, Pennsylvania campus sits in the Appalachian foothills east of Pittsburgh, drawing from a western Pennsylvania recruiting base that produces linemen and linebackers at a rate that routinely exceeds their recruiting rankings. Curt Loupe's program is built on development and physical play — the same formula that made Western Pennsylvania the country's most productive football corridor.

The RivalWest Chester's Consistent Challenge

West Chester University, in the Philadelphia suburbs, has won three PSAC titles and made multiple Super Region championship game appearances. Their eastern Pennsylvania location gives them access to the most competitive DII recruiting market in the Mid-Atlantic — linemen from South Jersey, skill players from the Philadelphia pipeline, a region with multiple prep programs that develop DII-caliber players who don't earn FBS scholarship offers.

Wild CardSlippery Rock: The Name and the Program

Slippery Rock University has the most recognizable name in DII football — ESPN used to read the Slippery Rock score as a joke, then the joke became a tradition. The program behind the name is genuinely competitive: multiple PSAC appearances, NFL draft picks, a tradition of physical play from the western Pennsylvania corridor. When they are healthy in November, Slippery Rock is a legitimate Super Region dark horse.
