Muhlenberg's Mid-Atlantic Era

The Centennial Conference is a Mid-Atlantic liberal arts league — Muhlenberg, Gettysburg, Dickinson, Franklin & Marshall, Ursinus, McDaniel, Stevenson, Juniata — competing in the Pennsylvania and Maryland corridor that produces some of DIII's most competitive academic and athletic programs. Muhlenberg won the DIII national championship in 2011 and 2018, appearing in four title games in fifteen years. The Centennial does not offer athletic scholarships, draws from the mid-Atlantic prep and public school pipeline, and produces NFL draft picks at a rate that reflects how seriously these programs develop players.

Three Things to Watch

The ChampionMuhlenberg: Allentown's National Championship Program

Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania won the DIII national championship in 2011 and 2018, appearing in four title games. Their Mules draw from the Lehigh Valley and Delaware Valley corridors — a pipeline that produces the linemen and linebackers that the Centennial's physical style demands. Mike Donnelly's program develops players at a rate that consistently produces NFL combine invitees and scouts' attention at a non-scholarship level.

The RivalGettysburg and the Civil War Battlefield Standard

Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania has won Centennial titles and appeared in the DIII bracket with a program that draws from the Baltimore-Washington corridor and south-central Pennsylvania. Their Bullets compete with a physical style that matches the mid-Atlantic's football tradition, and their campus — on the site of the Civil War's most consequential battle — gives them a recruiting story that few DIII programs can match for cultural resonance.

Wild CardFranklin and Marshall: Lancaster's Academic Giant

Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania recruits from one of the East Coast's most productive prep school and public high school corridors. Their Diplomats compete in the Centennial with a roster that includes players who chose F&M's academic profile over scholarship offers at DII and FCS programs. When their offensive system is running efficiently, F&M is the Centennial's most dangerous bracket upset candidate.
