How fan mood is read

Fan mood compares what Oklahoma fans wrote in r/CFB game threads with every FBS fanbase with enough talk that week. A week runs Monday to Sunday and is named for the game in it. The read is redrawn 300 times from the same commenters, re-ranking every fanbase each time. Sour or all in means the read sat in the bottom or top fifth in at least 70 of every 100 draws; on the sour side or on the bright side, in the bottom or top two fifths in at least 80; anything less settled is middle of the pack. A bright label also needs more positive talk than negative, and a sour one the reverse. Brighter or sourer than usual compares the week with the team's own earlier weeks, after taking out how every fanbase read that week. Each dot sits at the read's rank that week. A week read before these labels keeps the word it was first given, the fifth it sat in (sour, uneasy, mixed, hopeful or all in). Season averages are the mean of a season's reads, in fifths from sour to all in, and seasons before 2026 were read from each week's wider talk, so a comparison across seasons is rough. 2019 and 2020 were read later, in one pass, from saved talk.

fans think Ben Arbuckle’s performance is holding back the team’s success

4 OU problems #1 John Mateer, can,t throw or read defense # Ben Arbuckle, can't call play's

Ben Arbuckle is too young to be our offensive coordinator. Oklahoma might have made a big mistake extending BV contract.

player performanceEarly signal — few voices

fans blame the quarterback for throwing too many interceptions

He was good until he reverted to his dumbass self and threw two of the most horrific picks you can have. On both it was straight to a defender and the second throw there were two Kentucky players that had it before any OU player ever had a chance.

Mateer threw a pick and basically collapsed along with the o-line after that, we were down 1 and he threw a pick-6 then threw another pick to end the game.

The QB/WR connection looks much better, we will probably win more because those look good.

One fan believes Ben Arbuckle underperformed in key games

I think Venables knows he has one more chance for OC and he’s gone as well. John Mateer sucks and so does Arbuckle.

But God, the offense is horrible and I think it's time for Ben Arbuckle to be removed immediately. Not at the end of the year, NOW!

scheme identityOne fan's take that season

One fan believes Oklahoma’s offense is consistently strong but the defense is often unreliable

The offense had carried OU all year, and while the defense was holding their own in the 4th quarter and OT, that wasn’t the time to start trusting the defense.

injury availabilityOne fan's take that season

One fan believes mateer’s injury reduced the team’s ability to score points

I think for OU it will really depend on if we have a run game or not. Without one we were too easy to defend against and it was made worse once mateer got hurt.

fan moraleOne fan's take that season

One fan believes Oklahoma’s defense in 2018 was among the worst in the country

2017-2018. Absolutely elite offenses with bottom 5 in the country defenses. Although 2017 I think was a better team overall with Baker at the helm (the Rose Bowl is one of the only OU games I can't rewatch) the 2018 offense with Kyler actually put up some better numbers. The defense was just even worse.

coaching decisionOne fan's take that season

One fan thinks better defensive coaching would have helped him win more

If we had this defense and the Riley era offense, we could have realistically won four in a row from 2015-2018 with Baker and Kyler.

Your giants at OL against our DL will tell the tale of how the game will go. If we can shut down your running game and make Arnold throw, it will be a long day.
