The talent factory — who sends the most players to the NFL.

Ninety years of the draft, by program. The all-time kings are Ohio State, USC, and Notre Dame — but the factory of right now is a different map. And every position has its own U.

The leaderboard

Ranked by first-round picks — the number that says a program produces not just pros, but stars.

Superlatives

The sharpest single facts in this dataset — risers, fallers, and the programs turning (or not turning) blue-chip talent into NFL picks.

How the map moved

Not the biggest factories — the ones whose output actually changed. Every card below shares one scale, so a glance across the grid is a real comparison.

Position U

The program that has sent the most players to the NFL at each position group — the receipts behind every “DBU” argument. Scope: position is unrecorded for every pick before 1967 (14% of the dataset), so this is a since-1967 stat — the leaderboard above still covers all 91 years.

Recruiting → draft

Signing 4- and 5-star talent is one thing; actually turning it into NFL draft picks is another. Ranked by conversion rate, among programs that have signed at least 20 blue-chip recruits with enough runway (by 2022) to have been draft-eligible. Note: this credits the school a player was drafted from, not necessarily the one they signed with — a recruit who transferred out before being drafted counts against this program, not the one that ultimately developed them.
